The year of 2018 will surely be memorable for many reasons, whether they be political, environmental or social. During this year, the fashion industry was redesigned in many interesting ways too. Here is an ultimate fashion rewind of 2018, prepared with the help of this project’s collaborator, Natalia Mandes. (Follow her on twitter now.)
1. Heidi Slimane as creative director for the brand Celine.
This year was marked by the rebranding of Céline. It is very clear that Heidi Slimane changed the brand Céline’s style, firstly by removing its accent and making it go by Celine only. Further more, his first collection seemed very comparable to his pervious work for Saint Laurent, which did not particularly resonate with what Phoebe Philo, former creative director of Céline, used to design. (Check it out now: Céline by Phoebe Philo: a fashion flashback.)
2. The Met Gala.
This year’s MET GALA was unforgettable for many reasons. First of all with its memorable theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, a lot of people have demonstrated their personal creativity according to the theme. Rihanna as a fashion pope? Astonishing.
3. Michael Kors buys Versace for 1 billion.
Fashion enthusiasts were surely shocked after learning this news. A high fashion brand so historical and iconic, now all in the property of Michael Kors, who had also previously bought Jimmy Choo. Thankfully, Donatella Versace’s still in the picture and won’t go away for a long time.
4. Victoria’s Secret’s not so secretive.
This year, during the Victoria’s Secret Show, the brand presented one of the cheapest Fantasy Bra in history, which raised controversy online. Shockingly, their reputation was also at stake after stating that plus size and trans models can’t walk in their shows.
5. Rihanna’s Fenty x Savage.
Fantastic lingerie on all body types is something we needed.
6. Popular Fashion Blogger Diet Prada accusing D&G after their racist campaign.
This is not the first time that Stefano Gabanna creates controversy and anger because of his attitude or disrespectful comments.
7. Melania Trump’s offensive jacket.
The Internet went crazy when The First Lady of the United States wore a particular jacket that read “I really don’t care, do u?” before visiting immigrants in Texas.
8. Kendall Jenner still is the highest paid model.
Kendall Jenner was announced the highest paid model a second year in a row, despite the fact that she walked very few runways this season. During her interview for the LOVE Magazine, she let some controversial statements slip, which alarmed many hardworking models in the industry. For this reason, Artémis Magazine interviewed many models like Peyton Knight or the Instagram page Shit Model Management to uncover the real and unspoken issues behind the modeling industry. Read it here.
9. Beyoncé’s September Issue.
Beyonce didn’t only look flawless for Vogue’s most important cover of the year, but she also did an amazing job hiring Tyler Mitchell as the first black photographer to shoot for Vogue Magazine. (Might want to check it out: Beyoncé & Rihanna: A revolution in Vogue history.)
10. Lady Gaga at A Star is Born premieres.
Miss Gaga did not fail to prove, once again, that she is a fashion icon indeed.
11. Golden Globes and Me Too movement.
This year’s Golden Globes will forever be memorable thanks to all the actresses that decided to wear black, defending women’s rights for the Me Too movement.
12. Queen Elizabeth visited London Fashion Week
Her Majesty attended LFW Richard Quinn’s autumn/winter 2018 show. She also walked the stage at the end of the show to present the New Young Talent award.

14. Adut Akech: a new face in the industry.
She just turned 19 and has walked almost every show. Undeniably talented and with a charisma like no other, Adut Akech was voted Model of The Year by the industry on website models.com
15. Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton.
Virgil Abloh presented his first collection as artistic director of menswear for Louis Vuitton Spring 2019.
